Free Android Apps

Free Android Apps

Well this is a new one!

An app I stumbled across with the obvious title “Get Free Apps” promises to obey it’s namesake and give you free apps.

Sound too good to be true? I thought so too.

Basically the premise behind this service is similar to what Amazon does with their Free App of the day. The service contacts developers and offers to promote their app on the condition that it is free for that day. The payment process is where this app gets a little bit worrisome though.

For this app to work, you have to go in to the play store and physically buy the app, and then apply for a refund. Once you purchase the app, the Get Free Apps app will refund the money to your paypal account.

It seems VERY sketchy and insecure, however it has a fairly high rating on the Play store. People are confirming that for the past few days of promotional apps, they have gotten their refunds quickly and the whole process has been smooth. At it’s core, this is just a strategy to promote paid apps, but I wish there was a more effective way to do this through the play store. Maybe instead of refunding money, the developers give one time coupon codes that the app generates and which can be used in the play store? That would be nicer and more official than this method.

In any case, if you want a free paid app of the day without using Amazon’s proprietary service, this might be the app for you. Try it out and let us know what you think!
