It’s always exciting when a new unannounced device leaks on camera. When I saw that a new Motorola device had been leaked, I immediately hoped that it was the X Phone. It doesn’t look like it, but it is still an interesting device.
The new phone looks to be a mid to high end device that will debut later this year. It is obviously still in the prototype stage, as known from the “Motorola Confidential Property” words printed on the screen. While it’s fairly obvious this software will not be included in the shipping product, the video gives us a good idea of what kinds of designs Motorola is working with.
The front of the screen looks very similar to the Nexus devices (which may or may not be Google’s fault as a result of their ownership). There are onscreen buttons and the screen looks to be one piece of glass that tapers off at the edges. The screen bezel is surprisingly small, which is nice to see in this day and age. There is also what appears to be a front facing camera toward the top and a nice new Motorola logo in a dashed circle on the top right.
While this may not be the X phone we’ve all been waiting for, it shows promise. It may not ‘WOW’ us, but it’s not as bad as some other phone designs out there. I look forward to seeing the final product.
