Everybody knows that in order for a mobile platform to succeed it needs to have a vast library of apps! More important than the number is the quality of the apps. There are certain apps that the inclusion of which signifies a “successful” platform. These include, but are not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds, Pandora and… you guessed it, NETFLIX.
A Netflix spokesperson told AllThingsD that they are Not actively working on an app for the reborn platform. While this might not matter much to Asian users or users in parts of Europe, this is the beginning of a death sentence for Blackberry in America. Since Blackberry is making America the major target of their assault, and nixing some Asian countries like Japan, This Netflix news is a bad sign.
Netflix may very well just be waiting for more interest in the platform before making a decision, but this puts Blackberry in a catch 22 situation. They need these essential apps to get developers and interest, but they need the developers and interest to get the essential apps.
Only time will tell how this plays out.
