Samsung is never one to shy away from trying new things and taking on the competition head on. This new product is no exception.
The Korean tech giant announced their HomeSync streamer device at MWC yesterday, designed to take on devices like the Apple TV. It’s main purpose is to wirelessly stream content directly from a users Galaxy device to the TV in glorious 1080P, something Google was trying to push on Nexus devices with the inclusion of Miracast.
While streaming is neat, the device also has a second function as essentially a network attached storage device with user accounts. The device includes a 1TB drive built in and can accommodate up to 8 user accounts. The neat thing is that each account is encrypted so that users can’t go snooping through other user’s data.
All in all, this seems like a push in the right direction for Samsung. If the pricing is right, this could be a huge hit. I wish they would take the people who designed this unit and put them on the Galaxy phone team. The device looks much better in terms of build quality than most of Samsung’s mobile products
