BlackBerry Gives Up On Japan, Will Not Sell BlackBerry 10 Devices there.

blackberry Japan

BlackBerry has announced that due to the immense cost of operations, they have no plans to sell the Z10 or Q10 devices in Japan. In addition, they implied that they do not have any plans to release another phone in the land of the rising sun. While this may be sad for some hardcore Japanese BlackBerry fans, Blackberry needs to look out for their business. They are in a particularly vulnerable state right now and they need to ensure that their business can survive in markets with a higher share. As of right now, BlackBerry only has a 0.3% market share, lower than in most other countries. The cost of translating the UI elements to the Japanese language is just too much of an investment for them to make.

While Japan may not be getting new devices, the existing customers will still be supported by the company. Hopefully the support holds the users over until they decide to switch to an iPhone or Android device.
