Recently we did a review on Mophie Juicepack Powerstation 4000mAh external battery and we found that mophie produces juicepack with very high quality. We concluded in our last blogpost that mophie, despite its price is comparatively higher than many other battery juicepack, we dare say that mopbie’s product has greater charging efficiency and nicer design. One big thing about Mophie is that they are more attached to the design and look & feel of Apple products.
The Mophie Juice Pack Helium is a long-waited iPhone 5 juicepack that is made in the form of the phone case rather than an external battery. Like the one they did on iPhone 4 / 4S, this battery case, this case will give your hungry iPhone 5 a double of battery lifetime. An additional 6 hours of 3G call time is claimed by the manufacturer.
At the bottom you will find a MicroUSB port which is exactly where the lightning port is situated and connected to. Using the MicroUSB port at the bottom and the MicroUSB cable provided, you can charge the Mophie battery case and also connect it to your computer for syncing content. There is also a button at the back for you to activate and check the remaining battery left on the battery case by the 4 LED lights next to it. It is 13% thinner than the older cases from mophie shown below.
Priced at $79.99, the mophie iPhone 5 battery juicepack starts shipping on 14th Feb in two colours, black and white. The colours are designed to match the iPhone 5 (Black/White) perfectly.
To buy or not to buy?
We haven’t received any technical specification from mophie except the designs. Estimating the performance of its battery based on the its older version it definitely is a product with unique way of charging iPhones. The case is created in a detailed mind towards Apple products. In terms of the design and battery performance, mophie can’t lose.
Well, every coin has two sides, so does having a battery case. Although it provides external battery for your iPhone 5, you should still keep in mind that your iPhone 5 is a lengthened version of the iPhone 4, so will this case be. A longer iPhone with a longer battery case will definitely be an inconvenience if you are putting it in your pockets. Aside completely changing the appearance of your iPhone 5, the battery health of your iPhone 5 will also be affected by prolonged charging if you don’t keep an eye on it.
Moreover, a battery case is nice in terms of the gimmick, but it adds weight to your iPhone 5 which was designed to be slim and light. Once you put this battery pack on you might feel lazy to take it off so it is also kind of a burden.
If you are considering a great change for the look of your iPhone 5 with incredible battery life, mophie battery cases are your best choice (but it’s expensive I admit). But if you don’t want a change on the appearance of your iPhone, consider the external powerstation offered by mophie or other firms.
*A further question: why can’t the mophie juice pack for iPhone 5 run on the lightning cable?
