Sony has really been stepping up their game in the mobile arena. They have a reputation for being extremely developer friendly lately, and have been putting out high quality smart devices. The Xperia Z is no exception to that rule.
The tablet, announced earlier this month, will reportedly be a 10.1 inch tablet running 2GB of ram and a 1.5Ghz Quad Core processor, with available LTE and HSPA+ connectivity. The Screen will be massive at 1920 x 1200 pixels, making it a full HD display. It will also come with an exceptional 8.1mpx rear camera, as well as other goodies like an SD slot for upgrading storage and NFC capabilities.
The chasis of the device is where Sony really managed to pull ahead of the competition. The tablet will be completely water and dust proof. On top of everything else, Sony managed to make this tablet the thinnest and lightest 10 inch tablet IN THE WORLD. Thinner than the competing iPad 4 and Nexus 10 tablets. The frame of the device is only 6.9mm thick and a very light 495 grams. To contrast, the iPad 4 is 9.4mm thick and weighs 662 grams, while the Nexus 10 is 8.9mm thick and weighs 603 grams. It should be noted that those are the WiFi models and the Xperia Z weight is based on the LTE models.
While the Nexus 10 screen resolution is still unmatched at a staggering 2560 x 1600 pixels, the specs and form factor of the Xperia Z definitely make it a great contender for the next generation of tablets.
Pricing and Availability will be announced by Sony in the spring.
