The Hong Kong Apple Store opened just in time before the launch of iPhone 4S. It locates in International Finance Centre Mall, Central, taking up the largest shop in the mall and uses the see through windows to showcase apple and their products. What is famous about Hong Kong store? TIm Cook said yesterday at the “Let’s talk iPhone’ keynote that Hong Kong store “At the Hong Kong opening, they sold more Macs on opening day than they have in any other store in the world!”. The potential of development of the Hong Kong store is obvious.
However, not many of us, those living in Hong Kong with an iOS device, know that Apple, together with the launch of physical store, released a tailor-made Hong Kong Apple store App to dig your wallet! Here’s how it works:
The front page looks the same as the US app. Forgive my poor carrier reception at home, I use WIFI and I see the app quickly locate my location, hope they are not leaking my whereabouts to Apple.
When you click to the “Stores” on the bar, it shows the Hong Kong store – ifc mall Apple store. Interestingly it seems Apple has plenty of stocks of iPad 2 here, so it allows you to reserve an iPad 2 and pick it up in the store. Many of my US friends may wonder how far this store is from my home. Please see below.
There it shows the store is not very far (only 3.7KM) from my home, Hung Hom. All I have to do is to cross the Harbor and I will instantly see the Apple storeThe App also allows you to select and config the device as you like. but I am not going into the details here.
This is the first-ever Hong Kong Apple store and I can see Apple treasure this opportunity to promote itself in Hong Kong, a metropolitan with high-spending behavior and undeveloped Mac markets. The App also serves as a milestone for online shopping app.
