It’s Official! HTC One XL preorder and launch date for ATT

Finally! ATT announced that the LTE version of the flagship HTC One X phone the One XL will be available for pre-order on April 22 and to launch on May 6th. I personally have been waiting for this phone and can’t wait to get my hands on it. The international version of HTC One X launched already in several countries but this will be the first LTE version that will be launched in the United States. To my surprise, it will be only $199 with a 2 year contract. The One XL will use the dual core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 chip by Qualcomm instead of the quad core. This is mainly to accommodate the LTE. Reviews and benchmark has been very good for this chip. The only downside may be the battery life. We’ll see. I’ll do an open box and review when I get my hands on it!

What really drains your Android devices’ battery? The answer is advertisements in applications!

Don’t you feel your Android Device’s battery performance is not stable at all? Sometimes your battery can last about a day but sometimes it can’t even hold longer after lunch time?

Purdue University study found that Android App battery consumption 75% is from advertising, only about 20% are really used to play the game, for example Angry Bird. The study looked into theAngry Bird, found it more than half the power used for tracking  GPS signal and checking the user’s position for downloading your local advertising message. Even if the program is closed, the relevant procedures will continue to run. The best way to avoid such high battery consumption is to delete these free apps with advertisements in order to avoid power consumption.

Hong Kong real time traffic information now supported on Google map and apps( IOS and android)

image

Google map application on IOS and android has now supported the traffic information in Hong Kong.  Green means the traffic is good. Red means the traffic is congested.  This serves as a breakthrough in Hong Kong where the difficulty in measuring the traffic data is obvious since the complexity and density of roads are hard to make accurate measurements from a GIS perspective.

Smart phones in recent years, the trend seems to be toward the increasing screen size in the direction of development, I still remember last year, if the phone screen up to about 4.3 inches, people might think that was very large; but this year, 5.3-inch (Samsung Galaxy Note) screenmachine models seems to be very popular! Exactly which screen size is ideal formobile phone users?  Strategy Analytics has conducted a survey and found that the most popular mobile phone screen size, is about 4 inches to 4.5 inches or so.

In the survey, they surveyed the smart phone users from the United States and the United Kingdom, nearly 90 percent of respondents said they tend to choose the phone screen than it is now more mobile phones as the next target of purchase to prove that the users on the requirements of large-screen mobile phones. In addition,  majority of respondents also said they tend to select phones with 4-inch to 4.5-inch screens provided that the phone must be thin! Study an interesting finding is that the respondents, the Android phone with higher than users of the iPhone on the big screen mobile phone. As for the other results, that is, women users tend to prefer small in size, aircraft models, this had been the case.

However, the research has some bias towards female users because it seems underestimated their preference towards a bigger screen. Indeed, when you visit Hong Kong, there are actually more women using Galaxy Note (5.3inch) than man. This is really interesting and pointing to another trend of mobile phone R&D.
